Minto US Open – Fantasy Draft Preview

For the US Open, we had the good fortune of adding a little spice to the fantasy draft preview as we went live on the Eddie and Webby Show Saturday evening where Slim teamed up with Eddie and Gritty teamed up with Webby to make picks for the US Open.

Link to the Youtube video here!

For all the new readers or those who are still confused about the fantasy draft, the players and teams noted above are not our picks for winners. Rather, these are our drafted teams. There are no duplicates. We each pick 3 teams/players from the five pro brackets (singles, doubles, mixed) in a snake style draft and get points based on the medals our teams/players get during the tournament (3 points for gold, 2 points for silver, 1 point for bronze). The person with the most cumulative team points at the end of the weekend wins the week.

We’ll also be doing previews for the split age and senior divisions for the US Open. These will be your standard previews as opposed to our fantasy draft previews.

The fantasy draft picks for the US Open are outlined below but, again, the reasoning for the picks is only in the Eddie and Webby live show for now.

I think Slim/Eddie have the edge on this one though Gritty/Webby could clean up in Women’s singles. Do you think the Saturday format could affect the outcome? Playing mixed that day then having to go into the pro gold for MD/WD has got to be tough for any player not 100%. I didn’t hear you talk about it on the show (excellent by the way).

We did not actually know that I think. That could affect the outcome for sure and especially for Ben who may want to conserve energy for the final, or other players.

Looks like enough hecklers convinced pickleball channel to get a phone stream up and running. Somebody dropped the ball on the streaming decision in my opinion. Main stream still not going to be up for another 3 hours though 🤦‍♂️

the pickleball channel exclusivity with us open makes zero sense. but lots of things in PB go on that make no sense. there was zero publicity on youtube that PC was even doing any streaming of the US open. The topper was showing that VERTICALY formatted iphone stream of STAK and TY on center court, and ONLY on FB. This from a professional broadcaster. Many viewers are migrating away from FB to Youtube. I am not a Facebook user. But it seems PC is not really aware of this. I have no idea why the US Open “powers that be” make some of the decisions they do. If Pro PB wants to “grow up” it really needs to do better than this for one of its top 2 Marquee events. It will be interesting to hear pro player feedback on this event, which has been negative in the past.

I totally agree with you @pickleballpost. It is very odd that these advances in broadcasting has passed by pickleball channel. I don’t even know how they can still be relevant – they’ve messed up so many times. But maybe it’s the power of contracts or being the low bidder. lol

Even though they had a late scheduled start to the broadcast, well after most of the matches were completed, the PBC did not have their truck in place when they needed it. They also were still setting up their cameras during their so called “live stream” of the tyson STAK match. I am subscribed to the PB channel Youtube feed and there was absolutely no publicity over the last two months that they were in fact going to live stream the US Open matches.

It felt like a broadcast from pre-Covid really. Not great
